More about Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar Fasciitis is a common condition characterized by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue running across the bottom of the foot that connects the heel bone to the toes. Individuals typically experience sharp, stabbing pain in the heel, particularly during the first steps of the day or after periods of inactivity. The pain often subsides with movement but can return after prolonged standing or after getting up from a seated position. Causes of plantar fasciitis include repetitive strain from activities such as running, walking, or standing for extended periods, as well as contributing factors like flat feet, high arches, obesity, and improper footwear. Diagnosis is generally based on a patient’s medical history and physical examination, though imaging tests like X-rays or MRIs may be used to rule out other conditions. Treatment options range from conservative methods like rest, ice, and physical therapy to the use of orthotic devices, anti-inflammatory medications, and, in severe cases, surgical intervention. Prevention involves maintaining a healthy weight, wearing supportive shoes, and incorporating stretching exercises into daily routines to improve flexibility and strength in the foot and lower leg muscles.
